What is a Doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and educational support to a client throughout pregnancy, during labor and birth, and in the early postpartum period. The role of a doula is centered on nurturing, evidence-based guidance, and steady presence — helping families feel informed, confident, and deeply supported at every stage of their journey.

During pregnancy, a doula offers education about birth options, helps families clarify their preferences, and provides tools for preparation — from comfort techniques and partner involvement to understanding common medical procedures and interventions. This foundation allows clients to approach birth feeling knowledgeable and empowered.

In labor, a doula provides uninterrupted support. This can include hands-on comfort measures such as massage, counter-pressure, positioning guidance, movement suggestions, breathing techniques, and relaxation strategies. Just as importantly, a doula offers reassurance, encouragement, and a calming presence, helping clients navigate the intensity of labor with confidence. Doulas also support partners, guiding them in meaningful ways to participate and feel confident in their role.

Shortly after birth, a doula continues to provide care by assisting with initial bonding, breastfeeding support, emotional processing of the birth experience, and helping families transition gently into the postpartum period.

While a doula does not provide medical care or replace healthcare providers, their continuous, personalized support has been shown to improve satisfaction with the birth experience and contribute to positive outcomes. Ultimately, a doula’s purpose is to help families achieve the healthiest, most empowering, and most fulfilling birth experience possible — one in which they feel heard, respected, and supported.

Natural Birth

A natural birth, also known as a vaginal delivery, is a method of childbirth where the baby is delivered through the vagina without the use of medical interventions such as epidurals, medications, or cesarean sections.

Childbirth Education

I teach childbirth education in my one-on-one prenatal visits in the privacy of your own home. I like to have a space where parents feel comfortable and relaxed to ask questions as I teach you about the birth process and help you understand the procedures what to expect in labor and delivery.

Do you teach my partner comfort measures for early pain coping techniques until you arrive?

Yes, in my second prenatal visit I give hands on skills to the partner pain coping skills, such as positioning, massage, birth ball positions, TENS unit use, music, and other relaxation techniques. Even after I arrive, I will include dad and help him be an active participant. He knows you better than I do and so he is a vital part of the process in helping mom feel safe and relaxed to let her body do what it needs to do during the birthing process. I will equip him with comfort measures, so he feels needed. He is an important role in the whole birthing process too.

VBAC Birth Doula

I have had the privilege of supporting many families in achieving successful vaginal births after cesarean (VBAC). With experience, preparation, and intentional support, I help families approach birth after cesarean with confidence, knowledge, and trust in their bodies.

I bring extensive training and hands-on experience in maternal positioning, movement, and targeted stretches that encourage optimal fetal positioning. By focusing on techniques that promote balance in the pelvis, create space, and support baby’s alignment, I help guide babies into favorable positions for vaginal birth. Throughout labor, I use purposeful positioning strategies to encourage progress, facilitate descent, and assist baby in moving efficiently through the birth canal.

My goal is to combine practical tools with calm, steady encouragement — helping families feel empowered, supported, and prepared as they pursue a safe and successful VBAC experience.

High Risk Pregnancy

I have supported families — and personally walked through — a wide range of high-risk pregnancy experiences. These include Type I and Type II diabetes, gestational diabetes, cholestasis, preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), chronic and pregnancy-induced hypertension, and premature birth.

My experience also extends to IVF and other assisted fertility pregnancies, pregnancy after miscarriage or stillbirth, twin pregnancies and deliveries, and VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) births. These journeys have given me a deep understanding of the emotional, physical, and medical complexities that can accompany high-risk situations, allowing me to provide informed, compassionate, and steady support every step of the way.

Home Births

With more than 50 home birth experiences supporting families through one of life’s most powerful transitions, home birth is not just something I attend — it’s a cornerstone of my work as a doula. These experiences have deepened my trust in the birth process and strengthened my ability to provide calm, grounded, and intuitive support in the home setting.

I am especially passionate about supporting families who desire a fully natural home birth. Over the years, I have cultivated a wide range of coping tools and comfort techniques to help manage labor naturally and confidently. From breathwork, positioning, and movement to relaxation strategies, massage, counter-pressure, visualization, and partner guidance, I tailor my support to each birthing person’s unique needs and preferences.

My goal is to help you feel informed, empowered, and deeply supported — creating a peaceful, safe, and nurturing environment where you can birth your baby with confidence and trust in your body.

Hospital Births

My heart is to ensure that every single family feels fully supported, respected, and empowered in the birth experience they choose — whatever that looks like for them. Birth is deeply personal, and I believe there is no one “right” setting or path, only what feels safest and most aligned for each family.

Whether you feel most comfortable delivering at home, in a birth center, or in a hospital setting, I am committed to walking alongside you with unwavering support. In the hospital environment, I provide steady advocacy, emotional reassurance, comfort measures, and clear communication support so you can feel confident navigating medical conversations and decisions. My role is to help you feel informed, calm, and in control — ensuring your voice is heard and your preferences are honored.

No matter where or how you give birth, my goal is the same: that you feel safe, supported, and deeply cared for every step of the way.
